A ZINE -
THE WILD CHILD

A SHORT STORY

Edit Image.png

This thesis film explores the idea of sonic identity through the lens of an artist’s experiences, relationships, and chosen mediums. This interaction shapes the way they listen, remember, and create.

Emerging as an experimental aftermath of extensive research into sound, memory, and identity formation ( in marketing terms ‘sonic branding’ ), the film traces these connections through moments between music, people, and emotion.

As the artist builds her music library, the work becomes an intimate, emotional portrait of how sound evolves into self and also how the self, in turn, evolves into a distinct kind of sound.

This film is a one-sided, incomplete love story following Rehan, who falls for Ravi the moment they meet. Inspired by ‘A Life Misspent’ by Suryakant Tripathi Nirala, the narrative explores intimacy, longing, and emotional restraint through quiet moments shared between the two characters. While Ravi understands and accepts Rehan’s feelings, he cannot reciprocate, allowing the film to dwell in the tension between desire and impossibility.

Designed as a silent film, the story unfolds through music, facial expression, body language, and visuals rather than dialogue. Created for an art direction course, the team focused on art direction and set design, with minimal spaces chosen consciously to reflect the simplicity and minimalism of the author’s writing and time period. My role centred on sound and music direction, using sonic cues to express the protagonist’s complex inner world and deepen audience connection.
